In this paper we designed a strictly controlled psychophysical experiment with stimuli featuring different combinations of shape, illumination directions and surface texture. Appearance of five tested materials was represented by measured view and illumination dependent Bidirectional Texture Functions. Twelve subjects participated in visual search task - to find which of four identical three dimensional objects had its texture modified. We investigated the effect of shape and texture on subjects’ attention. We are not looking at low level salience, as the task is to make a high level quality judgment. Our results revealed several interesting aspects of human perception of different textured materials and, surface shapes.
<action target="WRD"> <ARLID>cav_un_auth*0283201</ARLID> <name>MUSCLE</name> <place>Pisa</place> <dates>13.12.2011-15.12.2011</dates> <country>IT</country> </action> <reportyear>2013</reportyear> <RIV>BD</RIV> <num_of_auth>3</num_of_auth> <presentation_type> PR </presentation_type> <permalink>http://hdl.handle.net/11104/0211029</permalink> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-q">100</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-s">0.314</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-y">16.66</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-x">0.49</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-4">Q2</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-E">Q2</unknown> <arlyear>2012</arlyear> <unknown tag="mrcbU63"> cav_un_epca*0380282 Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding 978-3-642-32435-2 0302-9743 160 171 Berlin Springer 2012 Lecture Notes in Computer Science 7252 </unknown> </cas_special> </bibitem>
