In this paper, we revisit the implied-realized volatility relationship with wavelet band least squares (WBLS) exploring the long memory of volatility, a possible cause of the bias. Using the S/&amp;P 500 and DAX monthly and bi-weekly option prices covering the recent financial crisis, we conclude that the implied-realized volatility relation is driven solely by the lower frequencies of the spectra representing long investment horizons. The findings enable improvement of future volatility forecasts as they support unbiasedness of implied volatility as a good proxy for future volatility in the long run.
<RIV>AH</RIV> <reportyear>2017</reportyear> <num_of_auth>2</num_of_auth> <inst_support> RVO:67985556 </inst_support> <permalink>http://hdl.handle.net/11104/0260443</permalink> <cooperation> <ARLID>cav_un_auth*0308308</ARLID> <name>Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague</name> <institution>IES FSV UK</institution> <country>CZ</country> </cooperation> <confidential>S</confidential> <unknown tag="mrcbC86"> 2 Article Economics </unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-e">ECONOMICS</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-f">1.565</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-g">0.319</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-h">3.9</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-i">0.01001</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-j">0.382</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-k">3870</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-s">0.954</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-4">Q2</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-5">1.057</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-6">364</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-7">Q2</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-B">28.789</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-C">71.6</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-D">Q3</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-E">Q2</unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbT16-P">71.614</unknown> <arlyear>2016</arlyear> <unknown tag="mrcbU14"> 84958756722 SCOPUS </unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbU34"> 000374195900041 WOS </unknown> <unknown tag="mrcbU63"> cav_un_epca*0250391 Economic Modelling 0264-9993 1873-6122 Roč. 54 č. 1 2016 503 514 Elsevier </unknown> </cas_special> </bibitem>
