abstract (eng) Bird feathers represent one of the most challenging examples of material appearance, driven by a combination of structural properties at different scales. At the microscopic scale, feather appearance is dictated by the anisotropic behavior of directional feather parts. At the nanoscale, some species exhibit structural color due to light diffraction on structures comparable in size to the wavelength of light. In this paper, we capture feathers from four different species, analyze various aspects of their appearance, and suggest its efficient modeling approach.\n
